Arterial Rapid Transit, or ART, is a new service type envisioned and implemented by MARTA. This type of service will create a network of fast and frequent enhanced transit routes on existing high density, mixed-use corridors on proven high-ridership areas. Some of its characteristics are shorter wait times, traffic signal priority, dedicated lanes, and enhanced bus stops.
The Southwest Atlanta Transit Initiative project will separately evaluate several corridors for the development of proposed ART service in in southwest Atlanta. The objectives of the project are to develop identify alignment(s), develop station alternatives, perform planning data collection, conduct feasibility planning, and to create preliminary station designs.
